Welcome to the blog, Robert! Could you tell us a little bit about your novel?
Demon Gates, Book 1 of the Nexus Wars Saga, is a classic fantasy telling the story of Valdieron, whose life is turned upside down after the death of his father. Fleeing from Trolls, he ends up in a cave where he comes across an old sword and discovers his heritage is not all he had thought it to be. As last of the Kay’taari, he must fulfill his legacy and save the land of Kil’Tar from demonic destruction.
What led you to write this book?
It ultimately came about as a result of having read most of the fantasy available by the early 1990’s. Having been an avid fan and reader, I had many ideas running around in my head, awaiting an outlet.
How did you handle the epic fight scenes?
With luck, and perhaps an innate form of situation awareness that helps me picture and visualize how the combat is going, as well as where I want it to go. I am a big fan of R.A. Salvatore, and have long admired his ability to create and articulate his fight scenes.
Which authors inspire you?
Along with Salvatore, the likes of Tolkien, Eddings, Feist, Rice Burroughs, Jordan, Weis, and Hickman, plus the new wave of indie authors coming through to form a wave of publishing new-blood.
What is your best advice on writing?
Write for the fun of it, but don’t take it half-hearted. Publishing is becoming more and more cut-throat, especially with the outpouring of indie work currently available. If you want to succeed, you have to rise above your peers, through talent, presence, and luck.
